Tyco Telecommunications Laboratories, with its heritage based in the reknowned
Bell Laboratories, has been a leader in the undersea telecommunications industry for
nearly half a century. Tyco Telecommunications Laboratories continues to invest in
and grow its technological leadership, averaging one granted patent per week. The
Laboratories and its staff of experienced and highly knowledgable engineers and
scientists use long-length transmission testbeds and proven proprietary computer
simulation tools to explore and qualify new optical path designs and transmission
formats.
Tyco Telecommunications uses a long-length ocean simulator to support the
development of advanced undersea cable technology. This Undersea Network
Modeling Tool is able to model systems more than 12,000 km in length, providing an
accurate representation of the physics affecting optical signal propagation. The tool
is verified against many laboratory test bed experiments, field trials, and full capacity
demonstrations on installed systems.
